Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, homes and neighborhoods. It encourages and accelerates adoption of sustainable green building & development practices through the creation & implementation of universally understood and accepted standards, tools and performance criteria.
The LEED Rating System evaluates the environmental performance from a whole building perspective over a building’s life cycle, providing a definitive standard for what is called a “Green Building”.
A building is certified once it is operational. The rating system is categorized into 5 environmental categories aimed at achieving high performance in key areas of human and environmental health:
sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
